Let’s Do a Blog Check!

September 2, 2009 Leave a comment Go to comments

Ohayo! Sashiburi! I was sleeping ๐Ÿ™‚

Let’s do a quick check of some blogs to see what’s new!

These blogs are written in Japanese, so if you can’t read Kanji (I can’t either ๐Ÿ˜ฆ ), here’s what to do – it’s a little variation on my guide near the top of my blog on How to Read a Japanese Blog:

– open a new browser window with this URL to Google Translate: http://translate.google.com. You can probably right click the link, then select Open in New Window.

– for each of the blog URLS below, left click at the beginning of the URL, drag to the right to highlight the URL

– right click what you’ve highlighted, and select Copy

– now go to the Google Translate window you opened, right click in the translation text box, and select Paste. The blog URL you copied should now be in the translation text box

– set the left hand button to Japanese, and the right hand button to English or other language of your choice

– hit the Translate button!

Now comes the fun part! You’ll see announcements of new stores, new releases, sales, new gifts, new lucky board items, and more! When you see something you want to check out, all you need is the SLURL.

Getting a functional SLURL can be a bit tricky when you’re using a translator. When you left click the SLURL link, the translator puts extra characters into the SLURL that break the SLURL. Not good.

Never fear! There’s a fast and easy way to get a good SLURL from a translated blog. Just use the same method above to highlight and copy the SLURL, just as you would a URL. Most of the time, you’ll get a perfectly functioning SLURL.

Now just flip over to SL so you’re inworld, click in your open chat as if you were going to type, and hit Ctrl V to paste the SLURL into open chat. Hit Say or Enter, and you’ll see the SLURL link in your chat history. Double click the SLURL link in your chat history, and you’ll get a pop up with a TP button, and off you go shopping and exploring ๐Ÿ™‚

Seem complicated? It’s really not. I’ve just given you a lot of detail that you probably didn’t need anyway ๐Ÿ™‚ Just practice it a few times, and before you know it, you’ll be running around all over SL Japan and Korea without a second thought ๐Ÿ™‚

And if you need help? Just IM me any time. I’m happy to help. If I don’t answer you soon, please IM me again. I don’t ignore IMs, so if you don’t hear from me, then something happened that I didn’t see your IM.

Here are three blogs for you to practice with, and the bonus is, that when you get the hang of it, you’ll have some great goodies to check out ๐Ÿ™‚
